    The play, turning upon chance encounters in the forest and several entangled love affairs in a serene pastoral setting, has been found, by many directors, to be especially effective staged outdoors in a park or similar site. They all agree. However, the outspoken Rosalind soon earns her uncle's wrath and is also condemned to exile. Jaques provides a sharp contrast to the other characters in the play, always observing and disputing the hardships of life in the country.
